Notes For Organizers
Performing Ambisonics Format is basically like performing any other multichannel music, but much more flexible. The Material will come as a predecodend multi- track recording, which means that one has just to assign each track to each speaker-channel.
Several speaker set-ups are possible for a perfomance with a height- component: 8, 12, 16 loudspeakers (or any other symetric setup), though a setup with less than 12 speakers may be critical in terms of proper diffusion.
The speakers may be any kind of usual loudspeakers, though active speakers are more convenient to use, as they do not need extra amplifiers. Ofcourse the speakers should have a good quality in sound reproduction.
The source may be a couple of DAT- Recorders synced with each other (Tascam DA 88 or Alesis ADAT), A stand alone Hard- Disk Recorder (e.g. Tascam HD 24) or a computer with sufficient number of outputs capable in playing soundfiles.
The performing space must be quiet and not too reverberant: The less reverberant the better, as reverberation confuses the localisation of sound in general. Also the place should have a sufficient height of the ceiling, as some speakers of the set-up have to be mounted in high positions. The setup iitself is scalable, which means it can be adapted to the size of the room. A setup, which fits just for 1 or 2 persons, is as possible as a rig sufficient to address 50 or more listeners.
Please note that all the works are registered at the GEMA.
